Scope:
Computer Science is the foundational discipline of computing that studies the use of computers to solve problems systematically. The ACM/IEEE-CS/AAAI CS2023 curricular revision aims to incorporate an appropriate competency model for computer science and produce an updated CS knowledge model. This paper serves two purposes. Firstly, it provides an overview of computer science undergraduate education across a few representative countries in Latin America. Secondly, it will cover potential implementation aspects of CS2023 (i.e. hybrid of competency and knowledge models) while considering specific regional community challenges in Latin America. In addition, the survey will potentially discuss teaching challenges associated with educational background disparity among undergrads from state and private education sectors. Other issues to be addressed include the gap between the university teaching/research staff and the local industry, where fresh graduates have to take further training for a full professional capacity during their first jobs in the industry.
